Terms of sale

These are the terms that apply when you buy a book from Lunoland (lunoland.co.uk). They are written in plain English on purpose, but they are still a real contract between you and us, so please read them before you order. By placing an order you agree to them. If anything is unclear, email hello@lunoland.co.uk and we’ll explain before you buy.

What you are buying

A personalised digital children’s book: an illustrated story starring your child (and, if you add them, family members and a pet), created from the photos and details you give us. It is delivered as a PDF file: we email you a link to download it. Once your book has been made, you can also choose to order it as a real printed book, posted to you: a softcover or a hardcover edition of the same story. The printed book is optional and always bought separately, after the digital one.

Price

The digital book is £9.99. If you go on to order a printed copy, it is £17 for the softcover and £25 for the hardcover, and UK delivery is included in that price. Every price is shown clearly before you pay, includes any VAT that applies, and is the total: there are no hidden extras and no separate postage charge.

When your book arrives

Your book is generated individually after you order, so it isn’t instant. Most books are ready well within a day, and we’ll email you the moment yours is. If your book hasn’t arrived within 2 working days, something has gone wrong on our side: email us and we’ll sort it out.

Printed books and delivery

Printed books are made to order by our printing partner in the United Kingdom and posted directly to you. We can only deliver to UK addresses at the moment. Printing and posting usually takes about two weeks from your order. Delivery is tracked, and we email you the tracking link as soon as your book is on its way. Please check the delivery address carefully before you pay: once a book has been printed with it, we can’t redirect it.

Your right to cancel: please read this bit carefully

Because your book is digital content made to your order, the usual 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 works differently here. By placing your order you expressly request that we start creating your book straight away, and you acknowledge that once creation has begun you lose the right to cancel. Your book is also personalised (made to your specification, starring your own child), so the law’s exemption for personalised goods applies to it as well. In short: up until we start making your book you can cancel for a full refund by emailing us, but once generation has started the order can’t be cancelled. Printed books work the same way: they are goods made to your order and clearly personalised for one child, so the 14-day cooling-off period doesn’t apply to them either, and we send them to the printer as soon as you pay. None of this takes away your legal rights if what we deliver is faulty, damaged or wrongly printed: see our refund policy.

The photos and details you give us

You promise that the photos you upload are truthful, that they show your own child and family (or people whose permission you genuinely have), and that you have the right to use them. Please don’t upload photos of other people’s children, celebrities, or images you found online. You are responsible for the accuracy of the names, ages and details you type in: they go into the book as you gave them.

Story ideas we may refuse

If you type your own story idea, we check it before any book is made. We will refuse, without charge, any idea that is unsafe, abusive, hateful, sexual, violent, or otherwise unsuitable for a children’s book, and we may refuse any order we reasonably believe misuses the service. If we refuse an order you have already paid for, we refund it in full.

An honest word about likeness

Your book is illustrated in an art style: it is artwork, not a photograph. We work hard to make your child instantly recognisable, and that is the standard we hold ourselves to, but an illustration is an artist’s portrait, not a photo print. Small differences between the drawing and the photo are part of what illustrated art is. If you genuinely can’t recognise your child, though, that is not what you paid for: you can redraw any picture yourself on your book page, tell us if it still isn’t right and we’ll put it right free, and if we still can’t get it right we’ll refund you: see our refunds page for exactly how that works.

Who owns what

Your photos remain yours: see our privacy policy for how briefly we keep them. The finished book is for you and your family: read it, print it, share it with the people you love as much as you like. What you can’t do is resell it or use it commercially.

If something goes wrong

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If your book doesn’t meet that standard (a corrupted file, missing pages, a book that never arrives), we will repair, replace or refund it. Our refund policy explains how, and nothing in these terms reduces your legal rights as a consumer.

The legal frame

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, though if you live in another part of the UK you keep the protection of your local consumer law and courts. If one part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. We may update these terms from time to time; the version shown when you order is the one that applies to that order.
